Summary (Spoilers ahead!)
The Downwards Spiral follow Lirife’s decay to what he became in 3016, a materially useless mass of self-hatred, sorrow and broken hopes. The story takes place at random moments in his life, as if recalling what made him fall so far. From the death of Bosek, his growing hatred of the unify that loved him, to his self destructive behavior, The Downwards Spiral offers an insight into Lirife’s anguish, sorrow and guilt, the guilt he has been able to expedite only in heavy drinking, and the reason as to why Velyzun, Atheael and the Faithful Infernum despise him as the Anathema, excommunicating himself from every single possible thing.
In the end, Lirife has destroyed everything he had, and so much more, leaving him to rot and decay in the hell he’s created for himself. After one horrible nightmare that contextualises what he had done, he finally breaks, and attempts to take his own life. The only thing that saved him that day was the hidden, yet present love he still had for his daughter, Velyzun. Years later, even after Abandonment Of Faiths, Lirife, while still wasting away, has not tried such an act again. For he wants to love Velyzun, more than he wants to die.
