Summary (Spoilers ahead!)

The tale follows Lirife's mind at its bare. Where nothing has definition, shape or reason. As Lirife looks upon the endless casualty reports hoping to find Firra well, he finds that she has been declared as 'missing in action'. Lirife immediately assumes she died, and runs away to avoid his emotions overflowing. He breaks down, and assumes that he failed her, and that he wasn't good enough against the darkness, that due to her kindness, she died, while Lirife could have averted it. He steels himself in the resolve of slaughtering dark dragons as revenge.

In battle, his savagery takes to new heights. He has to be forced off of the eviscerated remains of a dark dragon.

And as he lays back into the night, he understands that he must protect against evil and darkness, by embracing his calling as Warmaster Lirife.
