  • Boreal Scald

A dragon clan within the universe of Destiny Intertwined. Boreal Scald is a clan of Water, Fire, and Ice dragons. Their claim to clanhood is their wealth, earned by their ownership of high-yield mines for magic and non-magic gems and crystals. History ⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ Boreal Scald traces its heritage back to the creation of the Ocean Domain in 2438, its ancestors being some of its first settlers. For about 300 years, generations passed normally, until one day a member of the family and their Unified had their third clutch. While all children of the family had until that point been water dragons, this third clutch contained not one, not two, but three non-water eggs. Two ice eggs, one fire egg. One in a million odds. Because non-water dragons cannot safely live in the Lunar Sea, families whose eggs return to their root elements are faced with a tough decision; move to lands, or give up the eggs. The ancestors of Boreal Scald chose to move, taking their strange 'luck' as a sign from the holy Ancestors themselves. The two parents, their four children (all Water dragons), and their three new eggs moved to the nearby lands of Concurrent Skies, settling the Glowing Isles. Having been rather well off in the Ocean Domain, they were able to buy a sizeable plot of land. Though Concurrent Skies offers very little in terms of farming, the water dragons were able to forage and hunt in the sea. The family paid the taxes on their lands by trading food from the sea and rarer crystals and gems from their land. The children, along with the Ice/Fire trio, would go on to wed other fire and ice dragons, whom they'd meet when traveling to the cities of Concurrent Skies, or other water dragons that they'd meet when visiting extended family in the Lunar Sea. In 2821, the family discovered a mostly submerged cave system under their lands, a system rich in rare gemstones, crystals, and magic gems. Excited by the coin that could be made from this, they began mining and selling the rarities they uncovered. The family's experience in selling food and materials from the seas was adapted to sell their findings at ideal prices. They familiarized themselves with market prices and judgments of quality so that they couldn't be tricked out of a fair price. Character idea and design must be approved. Not accepting designs/do not make designs before designs for current members have been made! As the dry parts of the cave became emptied, the water dragons in the family would be sent into the submerged parts to explore and collect more. The young children too would be sent in to explore where the adults could not fit. Though these children were supervised, one family member's incompetence led to a tragedy in 2938, where two children became lost. One returned after two weeks, malnourished and traumatized but alive, the other was never found. The family set aside some of their earnings to instead buy the labor of other dragons, mostly water dragons to explore and mine the deep, submerged cave network. This vastly increased their output, making the small family far richer. By 2960, the family did little of the actual mining themselves, having hired and managed hundreds of workers to do all the manual labor for them. They bought the lands surrounding a newly discovered deposit in Crystal Fields and started another mine, hiring dozens more workers which later became another few hundred. In 2979, the family's vast wealth and their contributions to society—not only in the form of finding and selling much-needed magic gems to the Warfang military, but through the creation of hundreds of jobs, the family was awarded Clan status. This was despite some controversy around the family, wherein dozens of their workers had died over the years due to accidents and lack of safety in the mines. This is viewed with little importance, as far as high society is concerned, as this is more or less the norm in this given trade. The now-Clan takes measures to increase safety for their workers, but is known to take risks and disregard uncertain dangers in favor of profit. When choosing the name for their clan, the family chose to honor their elemental heritage, the reason their family came upon such prosperity; the combination of Water, Fire, and Ice. While Boreal Scald's main estate is in the Glowing Isles, not too far from their first mine, they have a smaller estate in Warfang City, wherein most of the Clan's ambassadors and trade agents live. Elements ⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ Boreal Scald is exclusively Water, Fire, and Ice. Their distribution is as follows; Water (21 total) Light Blue (11) Deep Blue (9) Clear (1) Fire (16 total) Orange (8) Red (6) Blue (2) Ice (18 total) Deep Blue (6) Blue (4) Aqua (5) White (3) Variants not listed do not exist in the clan currently. Clan Trait ⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ The most notable trait of Boreal Scald is their elemental markings. These take on swirly shapes and are accented by 'bubbles' or spots. While the Water dragons' markings aren't unusual, the markings on their Fire and Ice dragons are; while distinctly suited to their elements, their markings appear to flow like water and retain the same kind of spots as the Water dragons. The second important trait of Boreal Scald is their colorations. They will almost always be a mix of warm and cold colors. Their water dragons will have pale, warm hues coloring their plates and horns, sometimes warmer colors such as pink for their frills and membranes, but always blue scales. Their fire dragons will be colored similarly, either blue or red/orange scales with warm (often more saturated than their Water counterparts) plates/horns, and blue frills/membranes. Their ice dragons more commonly lack warm colors, but on average have more warm colors than other ice dragons, and also often sport purple and pink. These colors are bright and pale, leaving the dragons looking like pearls. Boreal Scald dragons have horns with segments that spiral from base to tip in a single line, much like sea shells. They always have frills somewhere on the spine, on the tail, and often on their cheeks and limbs. They may have spurs on the wings matching the color and texture of their horns and claws. Trade ⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ Boreal Scald is known for their trade of gems. While a major contributor of magic gems (red healing gems, green mana gems, blue and mixed Spirit gems), they also trade in rare gemstones and crystals which are used for decor, attire, jewelry, and art within high society. During mandatory service, most go into the Guard, but some choose the Army, which the family respects. Some choose to stay in these professions, while most leave after their required service is over. Some members seek other professions after this, though most are encouraged to help manage the mines and trade. Reproduction and Eggs ⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ While Boreal Scald allows for romantic Unions, they strictly only allow dragons of Fire, Ice, and Water heritage to marry into the Clan. While members may leave the clan to marry dragons of Electricity, Earth, and Wind, their children will not be accepted back into the Clan. This virtually never happens though, as the family is taught to be very proud of their particular heritage. The Clan will contract willing members to keep their numbers up, and their blood of good quality, but prefer having a smaller clan as their status is not dependent on their numbers (and in fact, would diminish at some point due to expenses tied to higher numbers). They don't shy away from selling certain family members into Unions with other clans to strengthen alliances. These members will usually be those not involved in the family business or otherwise not high achieving enough. Notable Members ⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ Lord Haver (Atriarch) Regner (Son of Haver, Heir) Lieutenant Ryverun (Nephew of Haver, deceased) Squall (Son of ???) Scalder (Son of Regner) Master Healer Feurin (???) And other extended family Trivia ⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ In late 2999, workers of Boreal Scald inexplicably found an egg inside one of the mines. It was believed to have been trapped by a cave-in decades prior. The egg was alive and well, and delivered to the Concurrent Skies Temple. The current Heir is the one that went missing inside the submerged cave as a child. He was 11 at the time. His clutch sibling was the one that never came back. Page written by DragonOfIceAndFire

With victory in the Wetland Abyss in sight, the Army hosts an event in its halls for the First Division, its soldiers and their families - a farewell party before deployment. Commander Lynerius endures his father's attempts to make him accept a last-minute breeding contract - continuing a recent strategy of sending the girls of interested clans to talk privately with him, a strategy that only leads to many hurt feelings and even tears. Imerus catches a glimpse of the Commander slipping away and is elated, heart fluttering at the chance to be by his beloved's side. He waves Lynerius over and the two chat. Lynerius opens up to Imerus about the inconvenience he's been put through - something he would, notably, not have done to most others. Imerus offers his sympathies, and leads Lynerius out to a balcony where they can have some privacy and room to breathe. Imerus takes this chance to sit close by his Commander, catching the him off guard by coiling his tail around Lynerius’ forepaw as a means of hugging and flirting. While Lynerius frequently dismisses the idea that Imerus is interested in him, he finds himself in a situation where this is impossible. Imerus wants to confess his love, his desire to bring happiness and contentment into the lonely Commander's life. Lynerius, however, goes down a path of dread at this. While the idea of casual sex does not bother him, he is highly averse to the idea of romance, and he doesn't want to risk hurting and losing Imerus. Before Imerus can get the words out, they are interrupted by General Tordner, who is alarmed at what he sees. He separates them, and Lynerius seems more than willing to leave the situation, even missing his father's threatening glares towards Imerus. Imerus laments the missed opportunity, asking himself why he even thought it would go well. Tordner, believing Imerus to be chasing riches, warns Lynerius against pursuing anything with him. Lynerius is angered by the way his Lieutenant is spoken of, and indirectly accuses his father of being upset only because Imerus is male - someone incapable of giving Lynerius the heirs that Tordner wants.

  • Arcadier

Arcadier is the Elder Guardian of Electricity , and one of the main power-figures of the Warfang Council, alongside Amberius , Terrenus , and Nivalis . She is considered the leader of the Elder Guardians, and as such often suspected to be the secret Elemental. Personality ⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺ Arcadier is stern, she only speaks when she needs to and as much as she needs to. She has little patience for adults acting up, but is soft towards children. History ⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺ Arcadier was born to a single mother, a soldier, in 2875. Her mother lost her life shortly before her hatching, leaving Arcadier orphaned. She was raised at the Concurrent Skies Temple. At age 16, Arcadier chose to leave behind the overpopulated Temple orphanage, and joined the Army. Here, she like many other young early joiners were put mostly to menial, non-combat work like cleaning and running errands for officers - in return for virtually no coin, but food and board were provided. This she did not mind, but she showed an aptitude for combat and had an impressive control of her element. Thus, she saw combat in the Shattered Vale very young. At age 46, she was among the first soldiers to encounter Dark Dragons as Warfang attempted to expand into the Dark Lands. Two years later, she left military service to raise the daughter she had just had. At age 49, she discoverd the Concurrent Skies Guardian of Electricity was selecting Apprentices. Not expecting much of it, she sought her out to present her case. To Arcadier's surprise, she was later selected as a Guardian Apprentice. At age 71, after 12 years of Apprenticeship, she was among the Guardian's only two remaining Apprentices. Arcadier was chosen over the other, and became the new Guardian of Electricity at the Concurrent Skies Temple. Here, she later met Nivalis. After 39 years of Guardianhood, Arcadier was eligiblie to become Elder after the death of the Elder Guardian of Electricity. The Guardian Order voted in favor of her, and she ascended to her current position as Elder Guardian of Electricity at the Ancestor Temple in Warfang City. Her features were designed to be close to this depiction in shape, but details, colors, and character are original. Around the time of this concept, her name was 'Arcanimus'. Arcadier was originally male. This was changed as a result of not wanting all the Elder Guardians to be male, despite the source material depicting all of the Elders to be masculine. Arcadier still retained these features and is a rather masculine female. As a nod to her origin, she is in-universe a transgender female. Though she magically transitioned in her early 20s, she presented female with feminine pronouns since before her teens. Her current masculine features do not bother her - her gender incongruence was more of an inconvenience, discomfort - a constant itch. At her transition she finally felt right, and she has never once regretted it. In fact, she barely remembers being born male. Because dragon names are never gender exclusive (though often lean one way or the other), Arcadier never changed her name. Before her ascension to Guardianhood, she was often confused for a male (due to her chin spikes, which are very uncommon on females - not a result of her birth sex, it was simply a trait of her bloodline and are present on her female descendants). The confusion usually lifted when she spoke - she has a deep but distinctly feminine voice. The name 'Arcadier' is based on the word 'arc', as in an arc of electricity/lightning, plus a general masculine-neutral suffix. Amberius is the Elder Guardian of Fire , and one of the main power-figures of the Warfang Council, alongside Arcadier , Terrenus , and Nivalis . Personality ⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺ Amberius appears to have the characteristics of a nurturing teacher - kind, patient, and eager to teach his students. History ⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺ (Pre-Destiny Intertwined) Amberius first became a soldier at the age of 22, serving for six years before he was selected to train under the previous Fire Guardian, becoming one of the many Apprentices. Throughout the next thirty years of training, Amberius would've been the sole apprentice left, proving himself in both element and striving for Guardianship out of the rest, ascending to Guardianship in 2952. After many years, Amberius surpassed his predecessor, and was elected as the Elder Guardian of Fire, retaining this position to the present day, (Destiny Intertwined - Chapter 2) In 3016, Amberius took the purple dragon, Malefor , to train with a flight his age. Said flight happened to be Master Therris ' flight. Abilities ⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺ Element As the Elder Guardian of Fire, Amberius has mastered the element of Fire. His exact mastery is unknown, as the Elders do not disclose which of them is the Elemental. Magic Dedicated to the element of Fire, Amberius has no trained abilities in non-elemental magic. He even allowed Malefor to spar with a shadow dragon, Hayze , whom he granted permission to use his dark element for such educational purposes. Trivia ⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺ Amberius was clanless upon being elected Fire Guardian of Warfang. Though this alone gave him the right to start a clan, he never did. • Clans | Destiny Intertwined

dragon clans Dragons (Clans) Dragon Clans Dragon clans are powerful, rich families that lead and influence dragon society. There are five clans in the Warfang Council. The four most powerful clans of each primordial element, and in recent history a fifth was accepted into the Council. Scions Aether is a clan of white-scaled dragons whose blood is so elementally mixed, their eggs can be any primordial or derivative element, regardless of their parents or even grandparents' elements. There are only a few hundred clans in the realm. Typically, the top four single-element clans represent the lesser clans of their element. Scions Aether represents clans that are mixed. Most dragons do not belong to a clan. Clanless dragons are also represented by the clans, bringing concerns and desires to lesser clans who carry it up to the leading five. What defines a clan? Clans are blood-ties. Dragons are only ever born into them, or join one through unity (marriage) and having their children be clan members by blood. The family of the dragon that marries into the clan does not become a part of the clan. Adopted family members are never viewed as genuine clan members, and disowned family members lose clan status. Two unrelated dragons/unrelated families can never start a clan together - clans are not an alliance, but a family wherein every dragon is related in some way. Arranged unity and reproduction is used frequently among clans. Due to beliefs of ancestral intervention and destiny, most clans pick eggs that match their clan colors. For example, Stormbringers only pick eggs that are predominantly grey, white and black, making up their famously storm-colored scales. The Scions Aether pick white eggs from a clutch. How are clans created? Clan status is awarded by the Warfang Council (or Tempest Reign/Ocean Delegation for Zephyr Kingdom and Ocean Domain) as a mark on a 'superior' bloodline. This is decided by vote. Clan status cannot be directly applied for, not self-awarded. It takes much to be eligible for clan status . The status and wealth of a single dragon is virtually never enough to give their whole family 'value' - it often takes multiple generations of high achievers to earn clanhood for one's bloodline. Exceptions can be made for elementals, generals/chiefs, and guardians. If a single clanless individual attains these labels, they are eligible to be awarded clan status. It is taboo to assign one's family a clan name without first being awarded the ability to. How many dragons are there in a clan? Clans with less than ten or even five members are not uncommon. The more powerful clans usually have many members. The more members in a clan means more wealth, more claws in the Army, the Guard, the Temple, the Justices, etc. Nepotism is rampant in clans. The Stormbringers are said to ‘command half the Warfang Army’ and the Warfang Guard are nicknamed the ‘Frostspear Guard’ for the fact that Frostspears make up much of the high ranks. Numbers alone can help push a clan further towards the top, but if half of a family has achieved very little, that reflects poorly on the clan image. Can clan status be lost? If a clan has too many members, it will stretch their wealth thin and they risk losing clan status. This can also happen if there are too many members, and most have unimpressive achievements. If a clan falls out of favor, the Council/Reign/Delegation may vote again to remove clan status. What are the public view on clans? Clans are looked at unfavorably by many, if not most clanless due to their dominance in politics, wealth, and influence. Clan dragons occupy most favorable positions in the army and guard, as well as other high society positions such as the Justices and Guardians. They are also much more likely to get away with crimes with minimum punishment, especially if the crime is against clanless dragons. How are clans run ? Primarily, clans are run by its Matriarch/Patriarch/Atriarch. This is a single individual, most often a direct descendant of their predecessor. Clan Atriarchs decide the clan's priorities, goals, spending, contracts, training, education, etc. This is a lot of work, so bigger clans will have Clan Ambassadors . Ambassadors represent the Atriarch and the clan in social events, in the creation and negotiations of contracts, and when hiring contractors such as tutors, guards, etc. Ambassadors are meant to act, to the best of their ability, as the Atriarch would. Then there are Clan Elders. While a clan's Elders do not actively work in managing the clan like Ambassadors to, they play an important role. Clan Elders are the 5-20 eldest, most accomplished members of a clan. While they may have power over other clan members simply by seniority, they have a special power over the Atriarch; the power to relieve them of their position. If deemed so by 70% of the clan's Elders, the current reigning Atriarch may be permanently or temporarily relieved as clan leader. The clan will then go to the clan heir, if they are of age. If they are not, a temporary Atriarch will be elected by vote until the heir is ready. If no heir was chosen by the Atriarch, the Elders will then vote on who will take over the family. This is a significant event. A clan's Atriarch is not replaced unless extremely unpopular with the Elders, by either being inept or neglecting clan traditions or values. Elders may also vote to reject heirs, contracts, or other decisions of an Atriarch though their eagerness to do so varies from clan to clan. As such, Atriarchs are sometimes at the mercy of their clan's Elders. Warnin, tasked by his aunt to locate his cousins, uses his tracking skills to find them deep in the lower woods of the mountains. Unfortunately, the twins are being threatened by a Tower Bear, a large ice predator. Warnin, in a split second decision, chooses to challenge the bear in a sacrifice play to allow the children time to escape. Meanwhile, an off-deployment Halogaiz is meditating on the sounds of the forest before being alerted to his smallest sibling taking on a Tower Bear alone. Knowing that Warnin could likely die in that fight, Halogaiz gives an order for Iracia to get a team of hunters together before he flies off to find Warnin. Halogaiz arrives just in time to save Warnin’s life, and Dien carries the badly injured young dragon to safety.
