Boreal Scald is a clan of Water, Fire, and Ice dragons. Their claim to clanhood is their wealth, earned by their ownership of high-yield mines for magic and non-magic gems and crystals.
History
⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻
Boreal Scald traces its heritage back to the creation of the Ocean Domain in 2438, its ancestors being some of its first settlers. For about 300 years, generations passed normally, until one day a member of the family and their Unified had their third clutch. While all children of the family had until that point been water dragons, this third clutch contained not one, not two, but three non-water eggs. Two ice eggs, one fire egg. One in a million odds.
Because non-water dragons cannot safely live in the Lunar Sea, families whose eggs return to their root elements are faced with a tough decision; move to lands, or give up the eggs. The ancestors of Boreal Scald chose to move, taking their strange 'luck' as a sign from the holy Ancestors themselves.
The two parents, their four children (all Water dragons), and their three new eggs moved to the nearby lands of Concurrent Skies, settling the Glowing Isles. Having been rather well off in the Ocean Domain, they were able to buy a sizeable plot of land. Though Concurrent Skies offers very little in terms of farming, the water dragons were able to forage and hunt in the sea. The family paid the taxes on their lands by trading food from the sea and rarer crystals and gems from their land.
The children, along with the Ice/Fire trio, would go on to wed other fire and ice dragons, whom they'd meet when traveling to the cities of Concurrent Skies, or other water dragons that they'd meet when visiting extended family in the Lunar Sea.
In 2821, the family discovered a mostly submerged cave system under their lands, a system rich in rare gemstones, crystals, and magic gems. Excited by the coin that could be made from this, they began mining and selling the rarities they uncovered. The family's experience in selling food and materials from the seas was adapted to sell their findings at ideal prices. They familiarized themselves with market prices and judgments of quality so that they couldn't be tricked out of a fair price.

As the dry parts of the cave became emptied, the water dragons in the family would be sent into the submerged parts to explore and collect more. The young children too would be sent in to explore where the adults could not fit. Though these children were supervised, one family member's incompetence led to a tragedy in 2938, where two children became lost. One returned after two weeks, malnourished and traumatized but alive, the other was never found.
The family set aside some of their earnings to instead buy the labor of other dragons, mostly water dragons to explore and mine the deep, submerged cave network. This vastly increased their output, making the small family far richer. By 2960, the family did little of the actual mining themselves, having hired and managed hundreds of workers to do all the manual labor for them. They bought the lands surrounding a newly discovered deposit in Crystal Fields and started another mine, hiring dozens more workers which later became another few hundred.
In 2979, the family's vast wealth and their contributions to society—not only in the form of finding and selling much-needed magic gems to the Warfang military, but through the creation of hundreds of jobs, the family was awarded Clan status. This was despite some controversy around the family, wherein dozens of their workers had died over the years due to accidents and lack of safety in the mines. This is viewed with little importance, as far as high society is concerned, as this is more or less the norm in this given trade. The now-Clan takes measures to increase safety for their workers, but is known to take risks and disregard uncertain dangers in favor of profit.
When choosing the name for their clan, the family chose to honor their elemental heritage, the reason their family came upon such prosperity; the combination of Water, Fire, and Ice.
While Boreal Scald's main estate is in the Glowing Isles, not too far from their first mine, they have a smaller estate in Warfang City, wherein most of the Clan's ambassadors and trade agents live.

Clan Trait
⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻
The most notable trait of Boreal Scald is their elemental markings. These take on swirly shapes and are accented by 'bubbles' or spots. While the Water dragons' markings aren't unusual, the markings on their Fire and Ice dragons are; while distinctly suited to their elements, their markings appear to flow like water and retain the same kind of spots as the Water dragons.
The second important trait of Boreal Scald is their colorations. They will almost always be a mix of warm and cold colors. Their water dragons will have pale, warm hues coloring their plates and horns, sometimes warmer colors such as pink for their frills and membranes, but always blue scales.
Their fire dragons will be colored similarly, either blue or red/orange scales with warm (often more saturated than their Water counterparts) plates/horns, and blue frills/membranes.
Their ice dragons more commonly lack warm colors, but on average have more warm colors than other ice dragons, and also often sport purple and pink. These colors are bright and pale, leaving the dragons looking like pearls.
Boreal Scald dragons have horns with segments that spiral from base to tip in a single line, much like sea shells. They always have frills somewhere on the spine, on the tail, and often on their cheeks and limbs. They may have spurs on the wings matching the color and texture of their horns and claws.
Trade
⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻
Boreal Scald is known for their trade of gems. While a major contributor of magic gems (red healing gems, green mana gems, blue and mixed Spirit gems), they also trade in rare gemstones and crystals which are used for decor, attire, jewelry, and art within high society.
During mandatory service, most go into the Guard, but some choose the Army, which the family respects. Some choose to stay in these professions, while most leave after their required service is over. Some members seek other professions after this, though most are encouraged to help manage the mines and trade.
Reproduction and Eggs
⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻
While Boreal Scald allows for romantic Unions, they strictly only allow dragons of Fire, Ice, and Water heritage to marry into the Clan. While members may leave the clan to marry dragons of Electricity, Earth, and Wind, their children will not be accepted back into the Clan. This virtually never happens though, as the family is taught to be very proud of their particular heritage.
The Clan will contract willing members to keep their numbers up, and their blood of good quality, but prefer having a smaller clan as their status is not dependent on their numbers (and in fact, would diminish at some point due to expenses tied to higher numbers). They don't shy away from selling certain family members into Unions with other clans to strengthen alliances. These members will usually be those not involved in the family business or otherwise not high achieving enough.

Trivia
⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻
In late 2999, workers of Boreal Scald inexplicably found an egg inside one of the mines. It was believed to have been trapped by a cave-in decades prior. The egg was alive and well, and delivered to the Concurrent Skies Temple.
The current Heir is the one that went missing inside the submerged cave as a child. He was 11 at the time. His clutch sibling was the one that never came back.
