Skadin is a Frostspear, a younger brother of Frossar and uncle to Vitreus, Frostir, and Isra. He's a Captain in the Warfang Guard.

 Personality

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Skadin is easily described as grumpy, unapproachable, and unkind. He's mostly disliked, and considered a typical Frostspear - corrupt with a heart of ice.

Unlike much of the rest of his family however, Skadin does not disagree with this opinion of himself. He does as his family tells him to - including everything morally corrupt. It doesn't matter if it's something he doesn't want to do - he does as told, and so he knows he's not a good man.

Numb to the struggles and pain of others through his family's indoctrination, and the constant exposure to the worst of dragonkind as a city Guard, Skadin spares the last of his honor towards his secret, bastard children - whom he carelessly, accidentally conceived as a younger dragon.

Skadin does not believe he cares for them out of any paternal love, but rather guilt - guilt for bringing them into a harsh world where neither parent wanted them, or could have them. Guilt over not being 'selfless' enough to smash their eggs, instead abandoning them at the temple orphanage to become someone else's property, as he did with his second daughter, Stryga.

Though he does not involve himself willingly in his children's lives, he pays for their full tuition at the temple, and has even protected Stryga from death - at the hands of his own nephew, no less.

History

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Skadin was born to Isrun, the current Frostspear Matriarch, in her third clutch. His father was a clanless purple ice dragon, contracted to Isrun in a failed attempt to introduce purple ice into the Frostspear family. Skadin was in a clutch of two, with his clutch sister, Isolda, hatching hours before him.

Like the rest of his family, Skadin attended the Warfang City temple for his education (2957 - 2975), then joined the Guard immediately out of military training, and has maintained this career since 2976. He was promoted to Captain in 2990.

In 2995, he was confronted with the consequences of his promiscuous exploits; an egg from a dragoness he barely knew. She wanted to be unified, live as a family - he panicked and sent her away in anger. Soon he feared his family discovering what had happened, and sent a written threat to keep her quiet - in part a fear of being disowned, but also fearing that his family would hurt them for his mistake.

In 2999, he had repeated his mistake and had another egg by an electric dragoness. She wanted the egg smashed, and though he said he would, he took the egg to the temple orphanage - pretending it wasn't his.

In 3002, another dragoness had an egg by him, but did not tell him. Instead she spoke of it to others, and the news reached the Guard, and as such, the Frostspear family. On the command of the (previous) Matriarch, his grandmother, the egg was seized, and Skadin was confronted. To beat the consequences of his actions into him, the egg was smashed before his eyes.

With this wake-up call, he stopped his irresponsible and careless actions, fully processing that he had  brought lives into the world, and now because of him, one hadn't even been allowed to live.

Abilities

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Element

With no significant drive to develop his element, Skadin's mastery rose in a crawl until he achieved Skilled in 3009, courtesy only of his family's strict training regiment and private tutors. He is not expected to attain any higher mastery unless he finds a driving force to propel him. As such, he's rather disappointing to Isrun.

Magic

Skadin retained some basic magic abilities from his time at the temple, if only because of his sister, a Proficient and Master of Magic, refusing to let him forget what little he knows.

Physical

Like much of his family, Skadin is tall for an ice dragon. He is lean, somewhat athletic.

Trivia

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

  • Skadin was a planned, minor Chapter 4 character. When Ignicia, a fire dragon bastard from an unknown ice father, was created, Skadin was decided to be her father (due to his concept fitting the role). Soon Stryga was also created, independently, and the relation was offered there as well. Due to his accidental children, Skadin was dragged into a more developed state, with more of a comic presence.
